Mesotherapy guns and Michel Pistor: What is their relationship?
Updated: 05/04/2017What is the relationship between Pistor mesotherapy guns and Michel Pistor?
Mesotherapy guns are devices that allow for superficial (intradermal) and painless multi-injections, less than 4 mm. deep, of medications to treat the affected area in each case.
Today we have mechanical and electronic mesotherapy guns, and different brands to choose from (Pistor, Techdent, etc.) according to our needs; but years ago it was not like this and mesotherapy was applied with a syringe and needle. In this article we explain the origin of mesotherapy, and of mesotherapy guns, as well as their relationship with Michel Pistor.
Mesotherapy Chronology
• In 1832 Charles Gabriel Pravaz, a French orthopedist and veterinarian, designed the first syringe in the form of a metal cylinder, attached to a gold or copper trocar, and a plunger, which through rotation allowed the administration of substances. Initially, it was used to inject chemical coagulants into the blood vessels of animals to find an effective treatment for aneurysms.

- Alexandre Wood worked together with Pravaz, but as this last one died on June 24, 1853, it was Wood who gave continuity to his work. That same year Wood devised an instrument to help alleviate the pain of his wife who suffered from cancer, injecting her with morphine. In this way, he invented the hypodermic needle, changing the cutting point of the needle, attaching it to a glass tube, and applying opiates in neuralgia.

• The origin of local application techniques for analgesics comes from the second half of the 19th century, when dentists investigated different active principles in order to alleviate dental pain. It was then that Godeke in 1860 and Nieman in 1885 found a local anesthetic solution from cocaine.
• In 1884 the anesthetic effects of cocaine were described by Koller, who popularized its use in ophthalmology, laryngology, gynecology, dental anesthesia, etc.
• The toxic effects of this anesthetic led researchers to look for a substitute that would maintain the effects without risks. It was then that, in 1905, Einhnor synthesized a substance known as procaine which is 5 to 7 times less toxic than cocaine.
• In 1925 Huneke and his sister published the results of the infiltration of procaine and its distant effects, calling it Neuraltherapy.
• In 1958, Michel Pistor was already familiar with local injectable methods, and began his career just as procaine was being used for therapeutic purposes.
• In June of this same year, Michel Pistor published in "La Presse Medicale" an article on the use of locally infiltrated procaine for the treatment of certain diseases titled "Mesotherapy", and in 1961, he published his book "Mesotherapy".

• Over the years, the pioneers of the technique joined Dr. Pistor's environment until in 1984 the French Society of Mesotherapy emerged. This technique spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world as a regular therapy recognized for its multiple benefits
• Dr. Pistor managed to relate the depth of the injection with the increase in the benefit of the drug. It was then that in 1987 the French Academy of Medicine confirmed that "mesotherapy is part of classic medicine".
What is the origin of mesotherapy?
The origin of mesotherapy is casual and even anecdotal. It dates back to 1950 when Dr. Michel Pistor discovered the effects of procaine, both as an anesthetic, vasodilator and bronchodilator.
One night, Pistor had to attend to the village shoemaker, Mr. Jules Parrè, at his home, who was suffering from a severe asthmatic crisis. As a result, the young doctor chose to inject him with intravenous procaine in order to cause bronchodilation to alleviate his pain. The next day, the astonished patient visited the doctor again after regaining his hearing after 40 years of deafness. From this discovery, Michel Pistor began to perform procaine infiltrations in the ears of patients to study how from this substance they managed to regain their hearing.
From then on, Dr. Pistor's consultation was filled with patients suffering from hearing impairments. Pistor observed that although the results were not favorable for everyone, certain aspects such as eczema, dermatitis, etc. were improved. He also observed that a small amount of procaine was required to obtain a therapeutic response, the effectiveness of which was maintained over time, and that administering locally spaced doses over time achieved a potent therapeutic effect. Likewise, he argued that the drug should be applied "in the right place", that is, as close as possible to the affected organ, but always in the skin area and not in depth.

In 1952 and 1958, doctors Pistor and Lebel worked together to develop various mixtures of drugs to treat numerous pathologies. At the same time, Dr. Lebel worked to design a short needle, 4 mm long, that would facilitate the injection of this substance, which was named the "Lebel needle".
In 1998 Michel Pistor highlighted the possibility of using longer needles - up to 15 cm - in order to inject small amounts of medication into organs or structures damaged by neoplasms.
Origin of Pistor mesotherapy guns
In addition to being the father of mesotherapy, Doctor Michel Pistor also invented the PISTOR 4, PISTOR 5 and PISTOR ELIANCE mesotherapy guns, the necessary gadgets for the application of this therapy.
It is thanks to the prestigious Doctor Michel Pistor that today we can apply mesotherapy through the PISTOR ELIANCE, the mesotherapy gun of high range, unique in the market with doses specially calibrated for the injection of high viscosity products, such as platelet rich plasma.
The ELIANCE is a soft and silent electronic mesotherapy gun that offers great comfort for the patient, and virtually painless application, even in treatments applied to the face or scalp. This gun, which has an integrated anti-loss function, is suitable for any type of syringe, and thanks to the electronics, precise adjustments of the penetration depth, the volume that is injected and the duration of the injection are achieved.
For its part, the ergonomic design of this gun, its light weight, in addition to all the mentioned attributes, make it the "Mercedes" of mesotherapy guns.
Characteristics
•The ELIANCE has an ergonomic control panel with tactile management, which is easily and quickly programmed by choosing specific values or any of the 6 preprogrammed injection modes.•These settings facilitate the start-up of the gun.
•The power of this gun is suitable for all therapies.
•Its state-of-the-art components allow it to adapt the injection of injectable solutions with a high degree of viscosity such as hyaluronic acid, or platelet rich plasma.
Advantages
•It can be used by both right-handed and left-handed people.•Its new generation battery is rechargeable both in 220V/50Hz and in 110V/60Hz, and therefore can be used in any country.
•It is a very versatile gun, with which different types of syringes and needles can be used (without having to use a probe).
•It automatically goes into standby, in case of any usage error.
Programmable functions
•Automatically memorizes the last setting•Needle length
•Needle penetration depth
•Syringe volume
•Injection speed (continuous mode)
•Time between two injections (mesoperfusion)
•Injection frequency (burst)
•Duration of injection (micro dose, standard dose, mega dose)
You can enjoy all these benefits for only €3,150, special price until the end of April, or €356.39 per month without VAT for 12 months.
