Description

BD

Vacuum blood extraction tube, sterile, with inert separating gel and coagulation activator, for serum tests.

Recommended for tests in which serum is analyzed. The new Vacutainer® SST™ II Advance Serum Separator Tube, made of PET plastic, is recommended for the determination of most therapeutic drugs and hormones. Its inert separating gel at the bottom of the tube provides a barrier between the clot and the sample serum. The gel, due to its density, moves during centrifugation towards the top of the tube, forming a barrier between the supernatant (serum) and the sediment (fibrin clot and cells). The inside of the tube is coated with silicone and micronized silica particles to accelerate the coagulation process and prevent the adhesion of red blood cells to the tube wall.

Sample treatment

Gently invert the tube 6 times immediately after extraction.

Minimum time before centrifugation: 30 min. after extraction.

Maximum time before centrifugation: 2 h. after extraction.

Centrifugation force and time: 1300 to 2000 g; 10 min. at 18-22°C (standard conditions)

Do not centrifuge the tube again once the gel barrier is formed.

Sample conservation

At 22°C: up to 8 h

At 4°C: between 8h and 48h

At -20°C: more than 48h

They should be stored at 4-25°C and protected from sunlight. At high temperatures, the gel can separate producing globules that are released into the serum. If the tube is cooled before or during the centrifugation process, the movement of the gel is hindered, causing an incomplete gel barrier. To optimize the displacement, keep the centrifuge at 18-22°C.
