Description
In addition to learning the necessary haptic skills:
• Achieves real-time deliveries or using the fast-forward feature to speed up birth
• It is supplied with optional additional perineum simulators for the practice of episiotomy techniques
• Learn to recognize the right time to select/suggest an assisted vaginal delivery
• Familiarizes with the simulator and learns the correct handling of instruments for vacuum forceps or typical forceps birth
• Increases confidence in managing labor and administering medications to achieve necessary progress during delivery.
• Determines the position and measurements of fetal descent.
SIMone™ provides the opportunity to practice an assisted delivery with instruments in a realistic way - over and over again in a safe environment with little or no preparation! In fact, a new birth scenario can be started in less than 60 seconds.
Haptic Response Technology (Mechano-sensory Skill)
By using patented haptic response technology for the development of mechano-sensory skills, SIMone™ provides a unique training experience. For the first time, a birth simulator gives the obstetrician the opportunity to practice an assisted delivery with instruments in a realistic way - over and over again. The unique feedback mechanism to the application of force allows the practitioner to learn the haptic skills based on mechano-sensory memory that are required to confidently perform these types of procedures, a feature that no other simulator offers. Through repeated trials with the simulator, practitioners develop the muscle memory required to perform vaginal extraction in the correct medical way. The level of realism is further enhanced with a specially designed audio and video interface.
Realistic Simulator
The birth simulator, SIMone™, is a model of the female abdomen with vulva and ischial spine. It features interactive software with realistic scenarios. Scenarios can be manipulated and enhanced by the instructor to create typical levels of complications and high risk in a delivery room. The unique presentation of the simulator at the level of a surgical table allows the doctor or audience to participate in creating infinite scenarios. Inside the simulator is a fetal head with sagittal suture and fontanels to determine its position and rotation. Practitioners are encouraged to palpate within the simulator the anatomical landmarks and thus assess the progress of birth. Realism is enhanced with the addition of audio to the simulation. Both the fetal heartbeat and respiratory sounds can be heard on the tococardiograph. In addition to this, the mother's pain during delivery as well as the actions of the birth assistant can be heard through the speaker.
Interactive Display
The software monitors and provides information about the progress of the birth; facilitates training in intervention to complete the birth, through the use of medications and the use of vacuum forceps or typical forceps.
It features various scenarios that simulate different birth processes. The simulation begins by selecting a "patient" from the image carousel with the touch-sensitive stylus. Each virtual "patient" has specific circumstances at birth with a brief description of their corresponding medical history. Once the scenario starts, a format with messages such as laboratory results and notes of the actions taken by the practitioners is displayed on the screen. Also displayed are a tococardiograph, a partogram, and a three-dimensional image of the position of the baby's head within the mother's pelvis. The tococardiograph and the partogram support the evaluation and progress of the birth scenario. The partogram shows the dilation of the cervix and the stage of the fetus until the end of the elapsed time during the course of the delivery. The third dimension viewer shows the contour of the maternal abdomen, the pelvis and the fetal head, which provide a visual guide to the baby along the natural curve of the pelvic axis. The display on the screen is synchronized with the partogram and the movement of the simulator. In addition to this, the impressive three-dimensional platform can freely rotate to point out anatomical structures and guide the practitioner to perfect their technique - the required force and direction to pull with vacuum forceps or traditional forceps.
[…] Through training with the birth simulator, SIMone™ will help learners (such as young doctors and midwives) to prepare for obstetric complications and emergencies […]. The fact that now more than ever so many cesarean sections are performed, reduces the individual experience of the staff and therefore demonstrates the need for a simulator of this type. Even experienced obstetricians can perform training on clinical cases and difficult delivery management […]. SIMone™ is an excellent simulator for training both obstetricians and resident doctors in birth techniques. The sensation and confidence with which practitioners can perform in a situation with successful outcomes, will allow them to respond quickly and appropriately to the mother and fetus during labor.
