Personal advice
Description
Dermabond Propen topical adhesive indicated for keeping the edges of skin wounds caused by surgical incisions closed, including punctures derived from minimally invasive surgery, and simple lacerations caused by trauma, completely clean. The adhesive does not replace deep dermal or subcutaneous sutures.
It is supplied sterile in a single-use filled applicator consisting of a breakable glass ampoule contained in a plastic vial with an applicator tip attached to it. The applicator is packaged in a bubble pack to keep the product sterile until it is opened or damaged. It's a liquid adhesive that contains a monomeric formulation (2-octyl cyanoacrylate) and D&C purple #2 dye.
When applied to the skin, the product is slightly more viscous than water and polymerizes in a few seconds. It has been scientifically proven that after its application the adhesive acts as a barrier to prevent microbial infiltration into the healing wound.
The product should not be resterilized or placed in containers or trays that must be sterilized before use. Exposure to excessive heat (such as in autoclaves or ethylene oxide sterilization) or radiation (such as electron beams or gamma rays) increases its viscosity and could make it unusable.
Certificates: CE medical device.
Technical specifications:
- Wound length: up to 20 cm.
- Vial content: 0.50 ml.
- Tensile strength: comparable to a 4/0.
- Color: purple.
- Absorption time: do not remove, the product naturally peels off (generally in 5-10 days).
- Sterilization method: ethylene oxide.
- Storage: less than 30 °C, away from moisture, direct heat and direct light.
- Expiry: 5 years.
