The plicometer is an instrument that allows the assessment of a subject's nutritional status through the measurement of the thickness of skin folds.

Therefore, it must respond to two very precise and universally adopted characteristics, which are:

1. The two arms of the instrument should exert a pressure of approximately 10 gr/mm2 on the skin fold.

2. The measurement of the skin fold should correspond to a surface area of approximately 6x11 mm.

This instrument respects these technical characteristics and allows the fold to be measured with an accuracy of 0.5 mm.
